Biography
Sunday Static is a rising force in the alternative and indie rock landscape, formed in Brooklyn in early 2025. Currently based in Oakland, the group features a lineup consisting of band leader Mikhail Ashcheulau on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, lead vocalist Duncan May, drummer Kieran Moorcroft, electric guitarist Ali Vélez, and bassist Jasper Smith. Drawing from an eclectic array of legends including The Smashing Pumpkins, The Strokes, Nirvana, Oasis, and Deftones, the band crafts a sound defined by the interplay of dual guitars, driving rhythms, and expressive vocals. Their music seeks to bridge the gap between heavy, distorted textures and accessible melodic hooks, resulting in a sonic identity rooted in dynamic contrast and groove. Sunday Static prioritizes a visceral, communal listening experience that reflects the raw energy of their live performances. By focusing on universal themes and emotional resonance, the members collaborate to create music that feels both immediate and fully alive. Their work serves as a testament to the enduring power of guitar-driven rock, grounded in technical precision and a shared commitment to building deep connections with their audience.
