Biography
Bryce Larsen is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist whose performances center on rhythm-driven guitar work, live looping, and layered vocal arrangements. Often performing as a one-man band, Larsen constructs full arrangements in real time, combining guitar, vocal harmonies, and beatboxed percussion into dense live compositions that expand far beyond the scale of a typical solo set. Born in Alexandria, Virginia, Larsen moved with his family to Long Island, New York at the age of seven. Largely self-taught as a guitarist, he developed his style through writing his own material rather than strictly studying existing repertoire. That process led to a rhythm-forward approach to the instrument that blends elements of rock, R&B, and acoustic singer-songwriter traditions. During his college years, Larsen studied music at Rutgers University before graduating from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. Much of that period was spent on the road as the frontman of the horn-driven rock band Stealing Jane. Touring and recording with the group allowed him to refine his skills in songwriting, arrangement, production, and stage performance while developing the wide stylistic range that would later define his solo work. After college, Larsen transitioned fully into a solo career, performing extensively across the United States and often traveling with little more than his guitar and a loose itinerary. Many of his performances emerge spontaneously in bars, small venues, and public spaces, where his loop-based live arrangements allow him to build complete songs from the ground up in front of an audience. His repertoire moves freely across genres and eras, frequently incorporating multiple languages including English, Spanish, and Portuguese while reshaping familiar songs into new arrangements. Larsen gained wider recognition after appearing as a contestant on American Idol, where his musicianship and stylistic flexibility introduced him to a broader national audience. While television provided exposure, his career has remained rooted in independent touring, songwriting, and direct connection with listeners. His recorded catalog reflects the same independent ethos. Larsen’s full-length album Here’s to You was funded through a fan-supported Kickstarter campaign that raised more than $24,000, enabling him to record at Dark Horse Recording Studios with producer Freddy Wall. The project captures the layered guitar work, vocal harmony, and rhythmic structure that define his live performances. Earlier in his career Larsen released the solo album Sport of Kings along with Hip Hop Un-Popped, a collection of reinterpretations that reworks hip-hop material into acoustic arrangements. Across these recordings and his extensive touring, Larsen has built a reputation for continuously evolving songwriting and performance technique, supported by a catalog that spans original material, live reinterpretations, and collaborative work developed with musicians across the country. Whether performing solo with the Martin guitar that has accompanied him since the beginning of his career or constructing full loop-driven arrangements on stage, Larsen’s work centers on musicianship, improvisation, and a style that merges acoustic songwriting with rhythm-focused performance.
